Baroness Ruth Deech has been re-appointed chair of the Bar Standards Board (BSB) for a second term.

Deech, whose second term will begin in January, was appointed by an independent appointments panel for a further three years. She was initially appointed in 2009.

The appointments panel has also requested vice-chair Sir Geoffrey Nice QC be reappointed for another year to ensure continuity and avoid recruiting for the two positions simultaneously when their terms expire.

During her second term Deech will focus on the BSB's new equality and diversity rules, the introduction of the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates, a new code of conduct and entity regulation.

Nice said: "The Bar has been subject to a great deal of change since our original appointment and I am sure there are more changes to come. It is our role to ensure that the BSB continues to develop and adapt to this changing environment, whilst providing effective and efficient regulation of advocacy and reiterating to the public that we are here to regulate in their interests."

Responsible for regulating barristers called to the Bar in England and Wales, the BSB has separately confirmed a raft of other appointments:
