Linklaters managing partner Simon Davies is set to run uncontested for another term at the helm of the magic circle firm.

Davies, who was elected in 2007 to take over from predecessor Tony Angel and formally took up the post on 1 January 2008, is currently the only partner in the running for the position.

The election process will close next month with a vote of the partners.

Davies' election comes a month after Legal Week revealed that the firm was embarking on its second partnership restructuring since 2009, with more than 35 partners set to leave the firm as a result.

London is expected to bear the brunt of the restructuring, with Davies also planning a large number of de-equitisations, despite the firm's earlier move towards phasing out its salaried partner rank.

Despite the scale of the latest restructuring unsettling the partnership, many within the firm were expecting an uncontested election.

Commenting on the process one partner said: [Banking partner] John Tucker would have been the only other credible candidate. Realistically though, there was no way that he would have had a chance against Simon."

Another added: "Although there are many partners who don't agree with Simon's management style, the consensus is that he is the only one who can do the job. In these uncertain times partners are looking for continuity, and we are currently half way through a major restructuring so a management change would be unwelcome."

Linklaters declined to comment.
