Dechert has relaunched in Frankfurt after pulling out of the region in 2005, with the US firm making a combination of hires and relocations to staff the new office.

Funds partner Achim Putz, who joined the firm in 2010 from SJ Berwin, will serve as the managing partner for the office. He will be joined by Benedikt Weiser and Carsten Fischer, who are joining from Mayer Brown and tax consultancy WTS Group respectively.

Fischer previously headed the regulatory practice at WTS, while Weiser – who will join the firm in February – led the German funds practice at Mayer Brown.

Putz has particular expertise in investment funds and structured debt products, while Fischer focuses on asset management, banking regulation and insurance law. Weiser specialises in asset management, funds, private equity, M&A and corporate.

Dechert chief executive Daniel O'Donnell commented: "Germany has always been an important part of our strategy to serve our clients' global needs. We are delighted to have found lawyers of Carsten's and Benedikt's calibre to join us as we continue to build our team in Europe. Further recruitment in the financial services and corporate area is expected shortly."

Dechert lost the last lawyer in its former Frankfurt office in 2005, having originally launched in the city in 2002. Since then, the firm's sole German presence has been in Munich.

In 2009 the firm saw the departure of corporate partner Andreas Junius to Germany's P+P Poellath. At the time Junius was thought to be one of the partners central to the firm's plans to reopen in Frankfurt.
