Clyde & Co and CMS Cameron McKenna have won appointments on Aviva's new reinsurance panel, put together after the insurance giant's former exclusive adviser Barlow Lyde & Gilbert merged with Clydes in November last year.

Clydes and Camerons were both appointed as Aviva's UK reinsurance advisers for a two-year term taking effect from 1 January, with both also set to handle most of the reinsurance work driven from the UK for the wider Aviva Group globally.

Aviva Group London GC Joanne Jolly led the review with fellow Aviva UK in-house lawyers Amanda Jackson and Louise Donegan. Prior to joining Aviva in 2010, Jolly was a partner at legacy Barlows.

Group GC and company secretary Kirsty Cooper said: "The focus was to identify one or two firms with both life and general insurance experience on the contentious and non-contentious aspects of reinsurance. We were also looking for international reach aligned to our own geographical spread and price and value-add were key to the appointments."

Confirmation of the appointments comes as Aviva is part-way through the process of selecting its first-ever European legal panel. The process is being run by Monica Risam, who joined the insurer last June from GE Capital as its first European GC. The new line-up is expected to be announced in the next few months.

The company currently instructs firms including Clifford Chance, Slaughter and May and Linklaters on a regular basis, with its Spanish arm turning to Ashurst for regular advice.
