EU lobbying law firm Alber & Geiger is launching in London in a bid to target international companies with a presence in the capital.

The Brussels-based firm will open its City office in Westminster's Berkeley Square in March, with partner Lord Charles Henry Plumb heading up the new base.

Lord Plumb, a member of the House of Lords and former President of the European Parliament, will be joined in the new base by associates Bruno Martins and Albi Alla, who will split their time between Brussels and London.

The new office marks Alber & Geiger's third, alongside bases in Brussels and Berlin. The firm is planning to target US companies and Chinese multinationals with European headquarters in London, but will not be practising English law or lobbying on UK matters.

Alber & Geiger managing partner Andreas Geiger said: "We see both an increased need and demand for EU representation for companies outside of the EU. London is in many cases the EU hub for many US, Chinese, Australian and Indian companies. Therefore, the new office in London will help us capitalise on such opportunities and will give us further scope to expand on the existing client base."

The London launch comes after the firm opened in Berlin in 2007 shortly after it was founded the same year by a team of lawyers who split from lobbyists Cassidy & Associates.

The nine-partner firm specialises in EU litigation, global political advice and lobbying, and counts among its members a number of former EU officials, politicians and high-profile EU lawyers.
