Morgan Lewis & Bockius has added a partner to its London private funds practice with the hire of William Yonge from Proskauer Rose.

Yonge, who joins the US firm today (1 March) after serving a period of gardening leave at Proskauer, advises fund managers, investment funds and private equity firms on financial services regulation and securities law.

He joined Proskauer in 2008 from McDermott Will & Emery's London base, where he spent five years – making partner in 2006 – before which he was a senior associate at Dechert.

Yonge's arrival at Morgan Lewis comes less than two months after private funds partner Noel Ainsworth joined the US firm from Simmons & Simmons.

Morgan Lewis investment funds head Louis Singer commented: "It is more important than ever to be able to offer clients guidance on ever-changing regulations. William's extensive knowledge of UK and EU regulatory issues will be tremendously valuable."

Yonge's exit comes after Proskauer hired a highly-rated funds team from SJ Berwin. City funds partner Nigel van Zyl joined the US firm's London office in January after resigning from SJB last year alongside fellow partner Oliver Rochman, with the partner duo followed to Proskauer by a team of associates.

Their moves came after merger talks between SJ Berwin and Proskauer were called off in 2010.
