Herbert Smith, Pinsent Masons, Eversheds and Farrer & Co have won places on the Southbank Centre's first legal panels, which cover property and planning work; employment and pensions; and commercial and other legal services.

Pinsent Masons has been appointed to all three rosters, joining one other firm on each. Herbert Smith joins Pinsents on the property panel, and is understood to be the primary adviser, while Farrers and Eversheds sit alongside Pinsents on the commercial and employment panels respectively.

The centre has set up the rosters in a bid to control costs as it prepares for the refurbishment of a number of buildings and the development of some of its land.

The Royal Festival Hall underwent a £115m refurbishment in 2005 which saw the building close for two years, on which Southbank turned to Herbert Smith. Herbert Smith is also currently advising the centre on the ongoing redevelopment of its Jubilee Gardens.

The Southbank Centre is one of the largest arts centres in the world housing iconic London venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and the Hayward Gallery.

Legal Week last week reported that Herbert Smith had won another panel appointment, with the UK top 10 firm appointed to the new Credit Suisse EMEA roster alongside Clifford Chance, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Allen & Overy, Ashurst and Simmons & Simmons.
