White & Case City restructuring partner Mark Glengarry is leaving the firm to take up a role at Morgan Stanley as a managing director in its investment banking division in London.

Glengarry joined White & Case in 2003 and was made up to a partner in the firm's financial restructuring and insolvency practice (FRI) in 2009.

His departure leaves the US firm's City FRI team with 14 lawyers, including three partners, with the firm hoping to continue working with Glengarry as a client.

Western Europe Middle East and Africa banking and capital markets head Rob Mathews said: "We will miss Mark but fully understand and support his decision to take a senior position with one of our leading clients. We look forward to continuing to work with him in the future and thank him for his many contributions to the firm."

Glengarry said: "Joining Morgan Stanley in a business role is very exciting. I look forward to continuing to work with my friends and colleagues at White & Case. I want to thank the firm for the fantastic opportunities and support that they gave me over the last nine years."

White & Case's financial restructuring team has been involved in many large European restructurings and in the last 18 months has advised on the restructuring of more than $52bn (£33bn) in debt facilities.

Recent roles have seen the firm acting as co-counsel to the private creditor-investor committee on the €200bn (£166bn) restructuring of Greece's debt, on which Glengarry took a lead role. Other key mandates for the team include advising Kaupthing Bank on its ongoing Icelandic bankruptcy proceedings.
