SJ Berwin has replaced Tony Angel as non-executive director on its partnership board with the appointment of former senior UBS banker Lucinda Riches.

Riches was a board member of UBS Investment Bank and managing director and global head of equity capital markets until 2008.

She is currently a non-executive director of UK Financial Investments, the Diverse Income Trust and Graphite Enterprise Trust. She is also an adviser to the board of the British Standards Institution and a trustee of Sue Ryder.

In her 21-year career at UBS and its predecessor firms, including SG Warburg, Riches was credited with building one of the most profitable international equity capital markets teams and led an international push into the US and Asia.

Commenting on the appointment, SJ Berwin managing partner Rob Day said: "This is an exciting and important appointment for the firm. Lucinda's hugely relevant experience and expertise will make an invaluable contribution as we continue to develop and deliver top quality client service whilst expanding our international reach."

The appointment comes after former Linklaters managing partner Angel left his SJ Berwin non-executive director role upon being named co-global chairman and senior partner of DLA Piper's business outside of the US in November last year.

He took up the non-exec post at SJ Berwin in March last year, in a role which saw him advise the UK top 20 firm's partnership board on strategy and execution
