Riverview Chambers has hired a director of operations, with 3 Verulam Buildings (3VB) practice manager Jeremy Hopkins set to take on the role.
The chambers is one arm of the DLA Piper-backed venture Riverview Law, the new-look legal services business which launched earlier this year.
In the new role, Hopkins (pictured) will be responsible for the day-to-day running of Riverview Chambers, including handling workflow and quality control processes, as well as pricing strategies. He will take up his new role in early May.
Riverview Law, which launched in February, provides solicitors and barristers to handle volume fixed-fee work from two arms – Riverview Solicitors and Riverview Chambers – with the solicitors arm led by senior partner Andrew Reeves and the chambers by chief executive and barrister Chris Baylis.
The chambers arm of the business provides access to a line-up of QCs and barristers including silks from 1 Hare Court, 11 South Square, Outer Temple Chambers and Five Paper Buildings. The model sees a mix of barristers that are self-employed and remain members of their chambers, as well as barristers who are full-time employees of Riverview.
Hopkins has spent almost six years at 3VB but has been a barristers clerk for 20 years for a number of sets, including XXIV Old Buildings, St John's Chambers and 12 King's Bench Walk.
Hopkins said: "This is an opportunity to do what I do as a barristers clerk but taking it out of the bubble which is the barristers chambers. I am itching to get out in the 'real world' and work with companies in an innovative way which will see us offering the solution that fits best for that business and not just necessarily within the traditional model."
Commenting on the appointment, Richard Lissack QC, who heads of the business team at Riverview Chambers, said: "This is a first-rate appointment. Jeremy is highly capable and very well regarded in the profession and this is a strong sign of Riverview's intention to attract the very best talent throughout the entire business."
Riverview Law offers fixed-fee commoditised legal advice on a range of matters including contracts, company law, data protection, disputes, employment, finance, insurance, intellectual property, IT and property. It is owned by holding company LawVest, which is backed by transatlantic law firm DLA Piper.
