Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has appointed two London lawyers to its partnership as part of a global promotions round of 11.

The promotions, which will take effect next month, include Scott Hopkins – an M&A lawyer who has spent two years on secondment at the Takeover Panel – and Penny Madden – an international arbitration lawyer. The new additions take the number of partners in the London office to 31.

Hopkins, an English-qualified lawyer who joined the firm in 2001, completed his secondment to the Takeover panel in 2010.

Commenting on his promotion, Skadden consultant and former deputy director general of the Takeover Panel Noel Hinton said: "Scott has an impressive understanding of the workings of the Code and the Panel."

Penny Madden, meanwhile, handles international arbitration work with a particular focus on telecoms, international trade and insurance disputes. She is set to relocate to one of the firm's offices in Asia next year.

The promotions come alongside nine further additions to the partner ranks in Skadden's domestic US offices, with eight in New York and one in Washington DC.

The internal promotions come after a period of expansion for Skadden's European practice, with the firm bringing in restructuring partner Dominic McCahill from Weil Gotshal & Manges and investment management partner Stephen Sims from Macfarlanes.
