Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has elected real estate head Robert MacGregor as the firm's new chairman, alongside the reappointment of senior partner Harold Paisner.

MacGregor will succeed current chair Peter Robinson, who has spent 18 years in the role. The three-year appointment was voted through by the partnership earlier this week.

MacGregor will continue as head of real estate alongside his new role, which will see him chair the firm's partnership board.

Meanwhile, Paisner (pictured) has been re-elected as senior partner for a further three-year term. He has been BLP's senior partner since the firm was created through the merger of Berwin Leighton and Paisner & Co in 2001.

The news comes after BLP also re-elected managing partner Neville Eisenberg for a fifth term at the helm of the firm in February this year.

Eisenberg ran unopposed, with his new term as managing partner beginning on 1 May for a three-year period. Prior to the election, MacGregor had been touted as a possible candidate to go up against Eisenberg for the position.

MacGregor joined BLP from Clifford Chance in 2004 to head its property practice. The move marked a coup for BLP, with MacGregor the former client relationship partner for trophy CC client Canary Wharf, and one of the UK's best-known property lawyers.

The news comes after BLP yesterday (18 April) announced its partner promotions, with 11 lawyers made up to the senior rank.
