Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) has appointed ex-Halliwells lawyer Anna Tolley as its new UK & Ireland general counsel following the departure of Claude Bahoshy earlier this year.

Tolley, a civil and commercial litigator who joined the company in 2009 from Halliwells, will now oversee the company's UK legal team, reporting to New York-based chief legal and compliance officer Sabine Chalmers.

Bahoshy, who took up the leadership of the drink's company's UK & Ireland legal teams in 2007, left the company earlier this year to take up a new role as deputy general counsel at Alliance Healthcare, which was formed five years ago via a split-off from Alliance Boots.

He spent a number of years as Asia-Pacific deputy general counsel at InBev before its $52bn (£36bn) transatlantic merger with Anheuser-Busch in November 2008, at which point he took a role to oversee the merged entity's UK & Ireland legal function.

The company last reviewed its legal panel in 2011. The review, which was led by chief legal and compliance officer Sabine Chalmers and vice president of legal John Blood, saw the company renegotiate terms with longstanding advisers Clifford Chance, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Linklaters, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, and Sullivan & Cromwell.

The beer company, which has UK and Ireland revenues of more than £1bn, boasts a portfolio of brands including Becks, Stella Artois, Leffe and Budweiser.
