Hogan Lovells has named retail banking head Emily Reid as the new London representative on its board, succeeding Nicholas Cheffings following his appointment as the firm's first sole chairman.

Reid (pictured) took the board role after standing against real estate partner Gill McGreevy, insolvency partner Joe Bannister and litigator Jeremy Cole, who were put forward by the firm as candidates.

The election comes after the appointment of City real estate litigator Cheffings as the firm's first-ever sole chair, replacing outgoing co-chairs John Young and Claudette Christian.

Christian is leading the firm's plans to launch in Rio de Janeiro later this year, while Young is retiring from the firm at the end of this month (30 April).

The transatlantic firm announced Reid's new board role alongside two other appointments, with healthcare partner Helen Trilling named Washington DC board member and DC-based global litigation co-head Craig Hoover retaining an 'at large' board member role.

The board has 12 seats in total, with the new appointments taking effect 1 May. It is responsible for overseeing the affairs of the firm, with executive responsibility for strategy, management and operating decisions handled by the co-chief executive officers and the firm's international management committee.
