Covington & Burling has made a second consecutive anti-corruption lateral hire in London, with Steptoe & Johnson partner David Lorello joining the US firm this week (15 May).

Lorello, who made partner at Steptoe in 2010, is US-qualified and focuses on US, UK and European regulatory issues.

The hire marks Covington's second high-profile addition to its London anti-corruption practice in recent months, after Casey Cooper joined the firm from Baker Botts earlier this year.

Last year the US firm also brought in the Serious Fraud Office's anti-corruption team head Robert Amaee for its City base.

Lorello has represented clients on issues arising under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the UK Bribery Act and other related anti-corruption regulation. He assists clients in developing anti-corruption compliance programs and in managing enforcement matters.

He also has represented clients before the World Bank Sanctions Committee in defending against allegations of corrupt practices in World Bank procurement.

The last 18 months have seen a number of US firms including Sullivan & Cromwell and McGuireWoods make notable white-collar crime hires in London, with Sullivan hiring Simmons & Simmons partner Louise Delahunty last year and McGuireWoods bringing in former SFO general counsel Vivian Robinson QC.
