Travers Smith has announced its annual partner promotions with eight new lawyers added to the top rank, including the promotion of a part-time lawyer for the second consecutive year.

The round will see seven lawyers added to the firm's partnership in London, with one associate made up in Travers' sole international base in Paris.

Broken down by practice area, three of the promotions have come in corporate, two in pensions, and one each in banking, litigation and environment & safety.

This year's round marks an increase on 2011 when the firm made up five new partners, including the firm's first partner to be promoted while working part-time. The move has been repeated this year with the elevation of part-time pensions lawyer Susie Daykin.

The promotions – which are effective as of 1 July due to Travers' financial year running from 1 July to 30 June – include two women, with corporate lawyer Lucie Cawood made up alongside Daykin.

Travers managing partner Andrew Lilley said: "All our new partners have made a significant contribution to the success of our business across the range of their practice areas, and their promotions reflect their continued commitment and hard work."

The news comes after Travers extended the amount of time partners must serve on salaried status at the firm before being elevated to the full equity rank from three years to four, with the change taking effect from the start of its current financial year.

The firm said that the move reflected a general trend in the industry to make full equity promotions at a later stage.
