Ex-Greenberg Traurig Maher (GTM) UK restructuring chief Lyndon Norley has resurfaced at US investment bank Jefferies Group, as a managing director and head of European restructuring & recapitalisation investment banking.

News of London-based Norley's new non-legal role comes after he left GTM in June 2011 around 18 months after joining the US firm's City arm, which launched in summer 2009.

Norley began his career at Clifford Chance, going on to practise at Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft – where he made partner in 2000 – and the City arm of Kirkland Ellis, where he launched the firm's European restructuring practice in 2002.

He led the Chicago firm's European restructuring team until handing in his notice in October 2009, overseeing hires including Jason Salman from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft and Paul Atherton from Sidley Austin.

Both Salman and Atherton had been expected to join Norley at GTM, however Atherton decided to stay at Kirkland.

Benjamin Lorello, global head of investment banking and capital markets at Jefferies, said: "Our restructuring business is one of the leading franchises on Wall Street and an area of longstanding commitment and focus. The hiring of Lyndon Norley significantly enhances our capability in Europe at a time when we believe an increasing number of European clients will be needing advice and solutions in this area."
