DLA Piper has added two partners in Scotland with the hire of Biggart Baillie disputes partner Alistair Drummond and one local promotion.

Drummond, a property litigation specialist, was head of Biggart's property dispute management unit, with a practice focusing on commercial lease disputes and construction. He is joining DLA's litigation and regulatory group in Edinburgh.

Talking about his plans for his new post, Drummond commented: "It's not reinventing the wheel, it's about bringing structures and good working knowledge to bear on an already strong team. I want to build us into the top-ranked offering for property litigation in the region, as I have done in past roles."

Separately, DLA legal director Callum Sinclair has been made up to partner in the firm's Glasgow intellectual property and technology group, with the moves boosting DLA's partner headcount to 11 in Edinburgh and nine in Glasgow.

The partner additions come after news recently emerged that DLA Piper is conducting a firmwide review of office and partner profitability. Partners within the firm have told Legal Week that regional offices in the UK are facing particular scrutiny, with some suggesting that Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham and Glasgow could be downsized.

Meanwhile, Drummond's exit from Biggart comes shortly after the firm announced it is to merge with DWF, gifting the expansive northwest firm offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow and around 40 partners. However, Drummond told Legal Week that his decision to move was not linked to the merger.
