The great and the good of the Middle East legal community were out in force last month when 300 senior lawyers gathered in Dubai to celebrate the achievements of the region's lawyers at the inaugural Corporate Counsel Middle East Awards.
Elias Hayek (pictured), chairman of the CCME and vice president of legal EAME division for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, praised the award winners for exemplifying the leadership role lawyers were playing in the region.
He added: "As a lawyer, I can think of no greater recognition of professional ability than receiving acknowledgement from my peers who are uniquely placed to understand the intricacies and nuances of the challenges faced daily in performing the duties of the job."
The awards were decided by a judging panel that was chaired by Hayek and included Mona Ashour Madi, general counsel Arabia Unilever Gulf; Anneliese Reinhold, general counsel & SVP legal & regulatory affairs at du; and Judge Shamlan Al Sawalehi, of the Dubai International Finance Centre Courts.
