Ashurst has strengthened its London restructuring practice with the hire of CMS Cameron McKenna partner Martin Brown.

Brown, who was made up to partner in Camerons' London banking and international finance team in 2008, specialises in corporate restructuring and insolvency proceedings. His clients include banks, hedge funds, insolvency practitioners and directors.

Notable projects have included leading a team advising RBS – where he had spent nearly a year on secondment – on the £100m restructuring of its lending to Riva Gaming Group, as well as advising the administrators on the collapse of business class airline Silverjet.

Ashurst senior partner Charlie Geffen commented: "Martin's expertise in restructurings is well acclaimed in the market. His appointment continues the expansion of our restructuring practice, acting for debtors, senior lenders and distressed investors and complements our strong capabilities in other European jurisdictions. Our creditor practice is going from strength to strength."

The hire comes after Ashurst last month brought in London-based litigator David Capps as a partner from UBS, where he was EMEA head of litigation and regulatory investigations.

Before that, the firm announced the hire of two partners from defunct firm Dewey & LeBoeuf, with Benedikt von Schorlemer and Andreas Mauroschat both joining Ashurst's Frankfurt office.

However finance partner Ugo Giordano left Ashurst to join Paul Hastings' London office earlier this week. Giordano focuses on capital markets, as well as leveraged, acquisition and structured finance.
