Green leases, which incorporate provisions committing the landlord and the tenant to collaborate to use a property in a more sustainable way to reduce its environmental impact, enjoyed a fanfare of publicity and enthusiasm a few years ago.
Property industry heavyweights such as Hermes, British Land and Land Securities all announced the adoption of green leases to differing extents across their portfolios.
