Insurance firm Travelers has turned to Flagstone Re for the hire of John Abramson to head its European legal and compliance team.

Abramson, who held the post of general counsel Europe and global chief compliance officer at Flagstone, will take responsibility for interacting with regulators on behalf of Travelers and managing corporate governance issues. Based in London, he will also work with the insurance company's in-house legal team to provide strategic and legal advice to business managers.

Prior to joining Flagstone, Abramson worked at insurance company Chartis, acting as senior vice president and deputy counsel for Chartis Europe in his last role there. He has also worked as counsel at legacy firm LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & Macrae, which he exited in 2002.

He replaces longstanding post-holder Alistair Gunn, who has left the insurance company after 20 years.

Travelers chief executive officer Sean Genden commented: "John has a solid understanding of the business and regulatory environment affecting insurance companies in Europe. With John's background and experiences he will be a great partner and counsel."

Abramson added: "I look forward to working with Travelers' legal and compliance teams and continuing to build an effective partnership with the business."
Travelers, which also provides professional indemnity insurance to solicitors, employs more than 30,000 employees across the UK, Ireland, Canada and the US.
