Squire Sanders has secured a boost in Saudi Arabia with the acquisition of El-Khoury & Partners' Middle East and North Africa (MENA) business.

The Riyadh-based practice, which formerly operated as EK Partners & Al-Enezee, has been renamed Al-Enezee in association with Squire Sanders.

The firms have worked in association for three years prior to the bolt-on. The Riyadh base, which has 15 full-time lawyers, works with businesses and government entities as well as multinational companies, financial institutions and private investors throughout the MENA area.

The office is led by Squire Sanders MENA coordinating partner Kevin Connor and former EK Partners & Al-Enezee managing partner Ziad El-Khoury alongside local lawyers Khulaif Al-Enezee, Wissam Hachem and Hadi Melki.

Al-Enezee will act as Squire Sanders' Saudi relationship partner as part of the jurisdiction's requirements placed on international firms.

Connor said: "We have worked closely with El-Khoury and Al-Enezee for many years, and the consolidation of this relationship is a natural progression."

New Squire Sanders partner El-Khoury added: "This is one of the first acquisitions of a Middle East law firm by a global legal practice and it demonstrates Squire Sanders' long-term commitment to investing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"As part of a global practice we will be able to leverage our presence in the Middle East, particularly in the telecoms, capital markets, projects and infrastructure sectors – these are key sectors in this market."

El-Khoury & Partners also has a separate base in Beirut, Lebanon, which will remain independent from Squire Sanders.
