Syco Entertainment, the joint venture between Simon Cowell and Sony Music, has recruited a senior lawyer from All3Media to take up a new role as head of legal and business affairs at the company.
Matthew Angel, who is controller of legal and business affairs at TV production and distribution company All3Media, will start at Syco next Monday (22 October).
Before joining All3Media he spent 10 years at ITV in a variety of business roles, before which he was the sole in-house counsel at the British Film Institute.
He begun his legal career at legacy firm Nicholson Graham & Jones – now part of K&L Gates – where he specialised in intellectual property.
His new role will see him handle commercial deals and legal matters for Syco, working closely with Sony's in-house legal team, as well as overseeing the entertainment company's business affairs around the world.
Syco, which was founded by Cowell in 2002, produces global brands such as The X Factor and the international Got Talent format, which includes Britain's Got Talent and America's Got Talent.
Syco Entertainment global CEO Charles Garland said: "Matt brings enormous and valuable experience to the team and his appointment reflects the growth of Syco over the last year".
All3Media was sold by Bridgepoint Capital to private equity rival Permira in 2006 – a deal which saw Weil Gotshal & Manges and Clifford Chance take the lead roles – while law firms Sony has worked with in the past include Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
