London regeneration project hands roles to Greenberg, LG and Clifford Chance

Greenberg Traurig Maher, LG and Clifford Chance (CC) have advised on an £800m regeneration project on the Greenwich Peninsula by joint venture property developers Cathedral Group and Development Securities.

Greenberg advised Cathedral on the Morden Wharf project, fielding a team led by London real estate head Tim Webb, alongside corporate partner Kate Eades and environment partner Cate Sharp.

LG acted for Development Securities on the project, with London real estate partner Jon Lloyd in the lead role. The site will be used for leisure, hospitality and residential purposes, as part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich's goal to transform the peninsula into London's premier entertainment zone.

Meanwhile, CC advised Dev-elopment on the formation of its joint venture with Cathedral with a team led by City real estate partner Mark Payne.

Cathedral and Development acquired the site in March this year from Brazilian sugar refinery Tereos Group, which was advised by Maclay Murray & Spens led by corporate partner Darius Lewington.

The deal marks the first time Greenberg has acted for Cathedral, with the US firm handed the mandate in March and the bulk of the work carried out this summer.

The transaction is the latest in a host of investments and redevelopments on the Greenwich Peninsula site over the last year.

Hong Kong billionaire Henry Cheng Kar-Shun invested almost £500m in a £3bn housing development scheme on the peninsula in June this year, with Forsters, Eversheds and Berwin Leighton Paisner all taking related roles on the deal.
