Keoghs is poised to take on a team of around 17 insurance fraud fee-earners from Clyde & Co led by former Manchester fraud head Damian Ward, who quit the firm this summer.

The team, which is expected to transfer over in the New Year, will join up with former Clydes Manchester head Dene Rowe after he joined Keoghs in June.

Clydes gained its Manchester presence as a result of its takeover of Barlow Lyde & Gilbert last year. The merger came after Barlows acquired Halliwells' Manchester insurance team following its demise in 2010.

Ward is currently on gardening leave while negotiating his exit from the firm. According to Clydes' website, he led a 50-strong fraud team in Manchester and is the only insurance fraud specialist ranked in the Legal 500.

The news of the pending departures comes after Clydes COO David Jabarri took the decision to leave the firm at the end of October.

Jabbari, who played a key role in the Clydes-Barlows merger, joined Barlows in 2009 as COO before taking up the chief executive role the following year when former chief exec Clint Evans left the firm.

The acquisition of the large team of lawyers marks Keoghs' first major move since selling a 22.5% stake to private equity house LDC at the start of the month.

Both Keoghs and Clydes declined to comment.
