Travers takes top law firm prize at British Legal Awards 2012
Travers Smith, Norton Rose and LV= were among the prize winners at last night's (22 November) British Legal Awards, which took place at London's Old Billingsgate Market. Travers saw off competition from Berwin Leighton Paisner, Clifford Chance, Latham & Watkins, Mishcon de Reya and Olswang to scoop the coveted Law Firm of the Year award.

Travers Smith, Norton Rose and LV= were among the prize winners at last night's (22 November) British Legal Awards, which took place at London's Old Billingsgate Market.
Travers saw off competition from Berwin Leighton Paisner, Clifford Chance, Latham & Watkins, Mishcon de Reya and Olswang to scoop the coveted Law Firm of the Year award.
The City of London Law Society awarded its Lifetime Achievement Award to ex-Law Society president John Wotton, the former head of the international public procurement group at Allen & Overy, who now serves as a consultant at the magic circle firm.
Meanwhile, Norton Rose CEO Peter Martyr won the Editor's Award for Law Firm Leader of the Year, on the back of a year that saw its fourth merger with Canadian firm Macleod Dixon, go live at the start of the year (1 January) and a combination with US firm Fulbright & Jaworski confirmed for June 2013.
The Legal Department of the Year was awarded to insurance group LV=, while Kent County Council's Geoff Wild won General Counsel of the Year.
Among practice awards, Skadden Arps Meagher & Flom picked up M&A Team of the Year, Hogan Lovells was named Banking, Finance or Restructuring Team of the Year and Stephenson Harwood won Litigation and Regulatory Team of the Year.
Burges Salmon won the award for Commercial Team of the Year, while Herbert Smith Freehills took home Technology, Media and Technology Team of the Year.
Other winners included Magnusson, which was named European Law Firm of the Year, Maples and Calder for Offshore Firm of the Year and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, which picked up European Legal Team of the Year.
London Office of the Year went to US firm Edwards Wildman Palmer, which was up against Baker & McKenzie, Dechert, Latham & Watkins, NCTM and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan.

The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota.
