Josef Caleff and Yves Jeanrenaud examine the impact of new legislation limiting the number of holiday homes being built in Switzerland

On 11 March 2012, the 'Stop the Endless Construction of Secondary Homes' Initiative (Secondary Home Initiative) was accepted by Swiss voters.

The new constitutional provision shall essentially prevent the construction of new holiday homes in tourist regions which already have a 20% or greater share of holiday homes. The Swiss Federal Council has adopted an implementing ordinance which came into force on 1 January.
