Farrer & Co has become the latest in a string of firms to announce job cuts, kicking off a redundancy consultation which will affect 12 staff.

The review, first reported today on RollOnFriday, will cover one fee earner role, along with two professional support lawyers, three secretaries and six business services staff.

The firm commented: "Farrers confirms that 12 staff have been put on notice that they are at risk of redundancy.

"We felt it necessary to take these limited measures as part of the prudent management of the firm, to ensure it remains robust and well positioned for its continued development in 2013-14. There are no plans for further staff reductions."

It is not known which practice areas will be affected, or when the review will start and close.

The news comes as CMS Cameron McKenna yesterday (15 January) launched a review of its business in the UK and Central Eastern Europe.

The consultation, which is expected to close within 30 days, affects 40 staff in the UK, 26 of whom are lawyers.

Other firms to make redundancy announcements in recent months include DLA Piper, which in November announced a consultation affecting 251 lawyers and back office staff. The review is expected to end this month.

Last December LG concluded the redundancy consultation it began in November, with 16 employees – eight fee earners and eight support staff – asked to leave the firm.
