Hill Dickinson is set to launch a new office in Monaco in a move to build on its yacht and superyacht law offering.

The Monte Carlo base, which will open in March, will principally work with the firm's yacht team clients, with Hill Dicks also aiming to develop its shipping practice in the region.

The new base, located on Avenue Princesse Alice, will be headed up by yachts partner David Reardon, who will relocate with a team of three lawyers. The firm is planning to recruit more lawyers in the six months following the launch.

Managing partner Peter Jackson said: "Our yacht team is widely regarded as the leader in the marine and superyacht market and, as so much of its work is derived from the Principality, it makes sense for it to establish a base there to provide an even better service to its clients and to enhance the firm's profile in this very important area of our business."

The firm's yacht team acts for clients in the yacht insurance market, advising owners, managers, brokers, designers and builders on issues such as sale and purchase matters, build contracts and yacht financing.

The office launch comes after Hill Dicks opened in Singapore in 2009. The base was established to focus on international marine work as well as other practice areas such as corporate and commercial, with the aim of developing closer links with the Korea, Japan and China markets. The UK top 30 firm also also has offices in Liverpool, Manchester, London, Chester, Sheffield and Piraeus.

The news comes after Ince & Co launched an office in Monaco in 2011, after the firm was granted a licence to practice English law in shipping and energy in the region, with a view to serve yachting clients on the ground as well as improving the firm's shipping, trade and offshore energy offerings.
