Morrison & Foerster and Sidley Austin have advised Chinese property developer Evergrande Real Estate on a HK$4.35bn (£368m) share placing.

The placement saw the company sell one billion Evergrande shares – equivalent to around 6.7% of the company – at HK$4.35 each in a bid to raise funds.

Sidley served as US and Hong Kong counsel to Evergrande, fielding a team led by the firm's head of corporate finance Huanting Timothy Li and corporate partner Constance Choy.

Mofo, meanwhile, served as both US and Hong Kong counsel to joint bookrunners Bank of America Merrill Lynch, BOC International and Deutsche Bank, with John Moore, the firm's co-head of capital markets in Hong Kong, at the helm.

The deal is the third Hong Kong capital markets transaction for Mofo in recent weeks, following the initial public offerings (IPO) of silver company China Silver Group at the end of 2012 and property developer Golden Wheel Tiandi earlier this year.

On Golden Wheel's listing – which was the first major Hong Kong IPO in 2013 and raised HK$756m (£61.7m) – Hong Kong managing partner Ven Tan worked alongside Moore and partner Melody He-Chen to provide Hong Kong law advice.

Partner Yi Wang at Chinese firm Jun He provided PRC advice, with Ashurst and Zhong Lun Law Firm acting for the underwriters. Counsel Jonathan Hsui led for Ashurst, opposite Michael Chen from Zhong Lun.

Moore said: "We're optimistic that 2013 will be a busier year for Hong Kong IPOs and expect to see an increase in activity in the second half of the year as more deals make their way to the market."
