SJ Berwin has secured the hire of Pinsent Masons' head of financial services regulation Tim Dolan for its City financial markets practice.

Dolan (pictured), who was formerly an associate at SJ Berwin before joining Pinsents' London arm as a partner in 2007, also previously worked at the enforcement arm of the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

His clients include stockbrokers, payment services firms, insurers, private equity and hedge fund managers, spread betting firms, proprietary traders and investment banks, while he also advises on FSA investigations and regulatory challenges from the London Stock Exchange.

High-profile work he has been involved in has included the £418m London listing of restaurant entrepreneur Hugh Osmond's corporate acquisition company Horizon in 2010, on which he was part of the Pinsents team acting for Osmond. During the same year he also took a role on private equity house Sovereign Capital's acquisition of asset management consultancy IMS Group.

SJ Berwin senior partner Stephen Kon said: "Tim's appointment marks the latest strategic investment in a core area of our business that is of increasing importance to our clients and their businesses as we continue to see systemic changes to financial regulation."

Other recent additions to SJ Berwin's finance practice include Chris Fanner, who joined from Herbert Smith last year, and Andrew Bliss, who joined from US firm Sidley Austin in 2011.
