King & Wood Mallesons has bolstered its tax team in Sydney with the appointment of Baker & McKenzie partner Tim Sherman.

Sherman, who left Mallesons in 2009 to join Bakers in the Australian city, will rejoins his previous firm this July in a bid to strengthen the firm's regional tax offering.

Focusing on income tax, Sherman has a wealth of experience providing taxation-related advice for corporate acquisitions, divestments and restructurings, capital raisings, onshore and offshore funds, and executive and employee share and option schemes.

Prior to working for Mallesons, he was employed with KPMG.

His appointment follows the promotion of senior associate and tax specialist Darren McClafferty to partner in Melbourne.

Justin Cherrington, leader of the national tax practice said: "We are all looking forward to having Tim back in the fold. He complements our existing team well and has a strong set of internal and external relationships that will enable us to continue to develop our practice."

In October last year KWM also recruited Bakers' head of global private equity in Sydney, Mark McNamara, who is due to relocate to Hong Kong.

A spokesperson at the time said the firm expected the private equity market to grow.
