Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has added to its intellectual property team in Tokyo with the hire of IP litigation partner David Case from White & Case.

As head of Japan and Northern Asia IP and commercial litigation practices at his previous firm, Case has a wealth of experience advising Japanese clients in litigation and arbitration involving IP rights.

He has played an active role in matters pending in US courts and worldwide, whilst handling a number of important depositions and other discovery matters in the city.

He is also a permanent resident of Japan, fluent in spoken and written Japanese.

"We are thrilled to have David join us in Tokyo," said Steve Routh, co-head of Orrick's IP group.

He added that Case's reputation as a well-known and experienced IP lawyer in Tokyo made him an important hire.

US firm Orrick currently has five offices in Asia, including Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, Tokyo and Tapei.

Earlier this year, it named the leader of its China IP practice Xiang Wang as the new head of Asia Pacific, with finance partner and three-year regional MP Michelle Taylor stepping down.
