Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has named real estate partner Chris de Pury as the firm's new head of real estate, succeeding current postholder Robert MacGregor.

BLP chairman MacGregor has led the firm's real estate department since he joined from Clifford Chance in 2004. He first outlined his intention to hand over the role when he was elected to chair the firm's board last year.

De Pury has been a partner at BLP since joining the firm in 2008 from Herbert Smith. He is top ranked in Chambers and Partners for London real estate work.

Meanwhile, fellow real estate partner Richard Hopkinson-Woolley has taken a role heading up the real estate practice group, which is split into three teams, having led one of them since May 2010. Hopkinson-Woolley joined BLP from K&L Gates legacy firm Nicholson Graham & Jones in 2003.

De Pury will oversee the three groups as well as the firm's planning and environment and commercial, construction and engineering teams.

BLP managing partner Neville Eisenberg said: "Chris de Pury has made a valuable contribution to the continued success of the firm's real estate practice over the years, emerging as the obvious candidate to succeed Robert as the firm's new real estate departmental managing partner.

The news comes after BLP recently elected David Collins as its new head of corporate, with former Linklaters corporate chief David Barnes succeeding him as head of the firm's corporate finance practice. Both roles came into effect at the start of the month.

Collins, who also leads the firm's betting and gaming sector group, has led BLP's corporate finance team since 2001, when he also became a member of the firm's strategy group.
