Long-serving Clifford Chance (CC) corporate partner Daniela Weber-Rey has taken a new role as chief governance officer and deputy global head of compliance at Deutsche Bank.

Weber-Rey, who has been a partner at CC and legacy Punder Volhard Weber & Axster since 1989, will join the bank's Frankfurt arm from CC's local office on 1 June.

Her responsibilities will include overseeing global corporate governance and advising the bank's management board on governance structures and processes. She will report to Europe chief executive officer and management board member Stephan Leithner, as well as global head of government and regulatory affairs Andrew Procter on compliance.

Leithner said: "Staying at the forefront on governance structures and processes, an area where the bank is traditionally strong, will be critical in the context of significant market and regulatory change."

While at CC Weber-Rey stood for the role of senior partner in 2010, which eventually went to current postholder Malcolm Sweeting. She was elected to the firm's partnership council in the same year, holding the role until last month.

CC Germany managing partner Andreas Dietzel added: "Her new role at Deutsche Bank reflects the reputation that she as our partner has established as a leading corporate governance, regulatory and compliance expert. We wish her the best of luck."

The news comes after fellow magic circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer saw former senior partner Konstantin Mettenheimer depart for Edmond de Rothschild, where he will chair the investment bank's Germany arm.
