Eversheds and Wragge & Co have advised on a deal that will see the development of a £450m science and innovation campus at Swansea University.

Regeneration specialist St Modwen Developments is working with the university as development partner on the first phase of the project, which will include 430,000 sq ft of academic space and around 900 student apartments.

The campus will be located on a 65-acre site, with the construction expected to create around 4,000 jobs, with a further 6,000 indirect jobs in the wider economy.

Eversheds took the lead role for Swansea University with a team led by London real estate partner Stephen Sorrell, assisted by Cambridge real estate partner Richard Birks and consultant David Swallow.

Wragges advised St Modwen with a large team from its London and Birmingham offices led by real estate partner Peter Thorne, along with fellow real estate partners Sue Bennett and Huw Roberts, tax partner Lee Nuttall and construction partner Richard Green.

Swallow said: "This is a transformational arrangement that will provide a catalytic facility for the university, enabling it to compete globally and provide first-class facilities for students."

Eversheds also recently advised the University of Wales, Newport, on its merger with the University of Glamorgan.
