SJ Berwin has made up five lawyers in its annual partnership round, with the firm's City headquarters gaining two of the new promotions.

The five partners are spread across the firm's London, Frankfurt and Brussels bases, with Frankfurt receiving two new partners and Brussels one.

Intellectual property lawyer Robert Guthrie and litigator Dorothy Murray (pictured) have been promoted in London, while corporate associate Michiel Huizinga and private client specialist Karsten Seidel have been made up in the Frankfurt. Meanwhile, Brussels EU regulatory and competition lawyer Christophe Humpe has also been promoted to the firm's partnership ranks.

The total number of promotions is flat on last year, when the firm promoted five associates, four of which were in London, with one in Frankfurt. The latest appointments come into effect on 1 May.

SJ Berwin managing partner Rob Day said: "Recognising, developing and promoting talent within our firm is a key part of our growth strategy. These five individuals have demonstrated the contribution they make to the firm in terms of their outstanding client service, their sector knowledge and superb technical ability. It's great to see such an international range of partner promotions."

SJ Berwin is also currently in the process of revamping its sector focus and extending it to associates and across international offices, as part of a bid to improve workforce engagement and communication with both partners and associates.

The firms is the latest top 50 practice to announce its 2013 partner promotions. Earlier this week Irwin Mitchell and Holman Fenwick Willan unveiled significantly expanded partnership rounds, with Irwin Mitchell's 13 promotions including four non-lawyers.
