Norton Rose has confirmed its 2013 partner promotions ahead of its transatlantic tie-up with Fulbright & Jaworski, with 33 lawyers made up across the firm's global network.

Europe and Canada have received the lion's share of the promotions, with 10 and eight respectively, while the round also includes six director promotions in South Africa – the local equivalent to partner.

Five of the European promotions are in London, with Alison Baxter, Eleanor Martin and Daniel Metcalfe made up in the firm's banking practice, while antitrust, competition and regulatory specialist Ian Giles has been promoted alongside Helen Masters, who is part of the firm's office of the general counsel.

The other five European promotions are all in Germany, with four in Munich and one in Frankfurt.

Broken down by practice, corporate (12) has received the bulk of the promotions, followed by banking (seven) and litigation and dispute resolution (six).

Forty-two percent of this year's promotions are female, marking a continued emphasis on gender diversity for the firm, which last year promoted 16 women in a 36-strong global round.

Norton Rose global chief executive Peter Martyr said: "The partner promotions reflect the international strength and diversity of our practice, which will grow again significantly in June when we combine with Fulbright & Jaworski."

Earlier this year US firm Fulbright promoted eight lawyers to its partnership rank, five of who were female, with one each in corporate, healthcare and IP, two in energy and real estate and three in litigation.

The total number of promotions for Norton Rose marks a marginal decrease on last year, when the firm added 36 lawyers to its partnership, including eight in London. In 2011 the firm entered Canada and South Africa via a three-way merger with Ogilvy Renault and Deneys Reitz, while a subsequent Canada tie-up with Macleod Dixon secured its first LatAm presence in Colombia and Venezuela.
