China's second largest law firm Yingke has launched an office in Israel this month via a merger with local firm Eyal Khayat Zolty, Neiger & Co.

The Tel Aviv base, known as Yingke Israel – Eyal Khayat Zolty Neiger & Co, is the 13th international branch for the Beijing headquartered firm and its third new office launch this year.

Eyal Khayat will remain managing partner of the base, working alongside local partners Eyal Neiger and Amir Zolty.

Core practice areas will continue to be venture capital, high-tech, corporate and M&A, with a focus on inbound Chinese investment and Israeli clients looking to do business in China.

According to Israeli media reports, it is possible that Chinese lawyers will also be seconded to Tel Aviv in the near future.

Yingke, which is the second largest law firm in China by lawyer headcount after Dacheng Law Offices, was founded in 2001 and has fast been growing its international footprint in recent years.

The 2,000-lawyer outfit, which specialises in a multitude of practice areas including corporate, capital markets, energy and IP, now has offices in 13 international cities and 19 major Chinese cities – a presence that spans four continents.

Last month, the firm opened its second Italian office in Milan and its first Belgium base in Brussels, also via tie-ups with local firms, respectively Mercanti Dorio e Associati and Oswell & Vahida.

The new Israeli venture is expected to open up a lucrative Middle Eastern 'start-up market' for Yingke, whilst giving the Israeli boutique firm access to at least 10 new jurisdictions around the world.
