Clyde & Co and Dundas & Wilson have both announced their annual partner promotions, with the number of new partners at Clydes falling 50% this year.

The seven promotions at Clydes is half the 14 made up by the firm last year, in its first promotion round following the merger with legacy Barlow Lyde and Gilbert.

This year the firm has made up two UK partners – marine specialist Charles Smith in Guilford and London employment lawyer Heidi Watson. The remaining five promotions are in the firm's offices in Montreal, San Francisco, Shanghai, Singapore and Dubai.

Last year the firm also made up two London partners in a 14-strong round which included six promotions in the Middle East.

Clydes has also this year promoted six partners into its senior equity rank, five of which are based in London – Tim Foley (dispute resolution), Simon Gamblin (corporate), Deug Rong Lee and Ed Mills-Webb (both marine) and Garrett Moore (insurance).

Senior partner elect James Burns said: "These promotions reflect both the continuing growth of the firm throughout our global network as well as the considerable opportunities for career development at the firm."

Meanwhile, Dundas has promoted 10 new partners, marking a significant increase on last year's total of four, with all the new partners based in the firm's three Scottish offices.

In Edinburgh, the firm has made up Scott Burns (corporate), Karagh Gilliatt (financial services), Finlay McKay (employment) and Louise Shiels (construction), while four have also been made up in Glasgow – Sian Aitken (insolvency), Aidan Campbell (financial services), Eleanor Lane (transport) and Deborah Wales (real estate).

The firm's recently launched Aberdeen office has received two new partners – Helen Machin (corporate) and Dawn Reoch (banking).

Dundas chairman Laurence Ward said: "Our new partners represent a huge investment in the future of our firm. I believe this demonstrates that our firm's commitment to flexibility and our approach to creating a law firm for the future is working for our people, our business and most importantly our clients."

Elsewhere, Burges Salmon has made up a trio of Bristol partners; tax specialist Suzanna Harvey and energy duo James Phillips and Nick Churchward. The round is significantly down on last year, when the firm added to seven to its partnership.

All promotions are effective from today (1 May).
