Ince & Co has added to its Singapore energy team with the hire of DLA projects and energy finance partner Martin David.

David, who joins the firm as head of energy for Asia, previously led DLA Piper's Asia finance and projects group from the island city-state, as well as its energy, water and mining sectors for the region.

He joined the UK outfit in 2008 from magic circle firm Linklaters, and until June 2011, was also the managing partner of the Singapore office.

He specialises in large-scale projects, particularly those in the onshore power and clean energy sectors in Asia.

In the past he has advised major lenders including commercial and investment banks, multilateral institutions, leading corporates and sponsors on range of high value and complex transactions.

Having originally trained as an engineer, David began his legal career with good knowledge about construction projects, and has since developed expertise in relation to project finance and energy M&A and construction law.

In recent years, he has worked on projects in Mongolia, Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

He was previously a partner at Linklaters' Singapore and Hong Kong offices for 10 years.

"Martin joins Ince in Singapore as we continue to expand the breadth of services we offer to the global energy industry," said the firm's global head of energy, Jeremy Farr.

"He has an outstanding reputation for projects work in Asia which he has developed over 20 years. His knowledge and expertise will be of great benefit to our clients."

Ince & Co's global energy group currently includes 30 partners and 60 associates split between London, Dubai and Singapore.

The practice focuses on onshore and offshore oil projects, gas projects, renewables developments, and offshore exploration and production. They advise on a mix of issues including disputes, construction and M&A; employment, real estate and personal injury claims.

The Singapore office in total has a team of 14 partners, working across the shipping, energy, aviation, insurance and trade sectors.

The firm also has a Formal Law Alliance (FLA) in Singapore with local outfit Incisive Law, the same arrangement as that between magic circle firm Clifford Chance and Cavenagh Law.

Outside of Singapore, Ince & Co also has offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
