Weightmans has announced a turnover of 6.4% to £82m, becoming the second UK top 50 firm to announce its results for the 2012-13 financial year.

The firm, whose 2011-12 revenue stood at £77.1, said its revenue had grown by 8.7% within its insurance division and 6.5% in commercial over the course of the 12 months.

Weightmans has enjoyed a period of rapid expansion over the past two years and in March picked up a 14-stong Manchester-based team from Semple Fraser following the Scots firm collapse.

At the same time, the firm also opened its first office north of the border after taking Semple's Glasgow-based partner Stuart McFarlane.

Long-serving managing partner Patrick Gaul recently stepped down but not before taking the Liverpool-based firm into the UK top 50 last year, partly due to the 2011 mergers with Vizards Wyeth and Mace & Jones. John Schorah (pictured) took over from Gaul on 1 May.

Schorah said: "This has been another exceptional year of growth and change for the firm. The figures are a direct result of our commitment to exceptional client service, innovative solutions and above all, teamwork. This is a real testament to the hard work of our people. I would like to thank everyone for their continued efforts and our clients for their continued support."

Profits per equity partner in 2011-12 stood at £264k.

Last week the only other firm in the top 50 to reveal its revenue so far, Mishcon de Reya, announced its turnover had risen 14% to £83.5m.
