Brick Court Chambers has secured its first major international mediation capacity through an alliance with leading New Zealand mediator Geoff Sharp (pictured).

Sharp is one of three new door tenancies secured by the London set, alongside Scotland-based John Sturrock QC and Fidelma Macken in the Republic of Ireland.

He will remain a member of Clifton Chambers in Wellington, and is admitted to practise as a barrister in New Zealand, as well as being an accredited mediator in Australia.

Sharp's practice also has a particular focus on Singapore, where he sits on the Singapore Mediation Centre's international panel of mediators, in addition to being a member of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre's panel of accredited mediators. Before becoming a full-time mediator around a decade ago, Sharp was a partner at New Zealand's Bell Gully.

Sturrock, who founded specialist business mediation firm Core Solutions Group in 2000, will continue to lead his firm from Edinburgh. He became a QC in 1999, practising at the Scottish Bar.

Macken is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Ireland and European Court of Justice.

Both Sharp and Sturrock will focus on commercial banking disputes, insurance claims and planning disputes.

Brick Court's joint head of chambers Jonathan Hirst QC said: "Geoff has a huge international reputation and works in Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong. John has an increasingly broad practice that takes him around the world and into frontier areas of government and national politics. I expect our mediators will work in as many jurisdictions as our advocates do."
