Trowers & Hamlins has become the latest law firm to announce job cuts, with seven employees made redundant between March and this week.

In total, three secretarial staff and four fee earners have been laid off, with the firm attributing the move to "continuing pressures on the UK legal market".

The firm would not provide any further comment on the offices and practice areas affected or the positions of the fee earners, and did not rule out the possibility of further job losses.

"In light of continuing pressures on the UK legal market, we have streamlined a few of our practice areas so that they better reflect our business needs," the firm said in a statement.

"We will continue to review the business to ensure it is robust for the future. We are actively recruiting into growth areas for the firm, and will be announcing further hires in due course."

Trowers also pointed to a number of recent fee earner hires, including Bahrain finance partner Salman Ahmed, who rejoined the firm from Clifford Chance, where he was a senior associate. The firm said it also expect others to also join "in the weeks ahead".

A raft of law firms have confirmed redundancy consultations and job cuts in recent months, with Berwin Leighton Paisner last week announcing a redundancy programme which has put around 100 UK lawyer and secretarial jobs at risk.

Osborne Clarke has also recently launched a redundancy consultation, with 13 fee-earner positions placed under review and a small number of partners asked to leave the firm.

Meanwhile, consultations carried out by both Farrer & Co and Olswang this year have seen nine and three job cuts respectively.
