Manchester's JMW Solicitors has posted a 13% increase in revenues, as the firm moves to shift its focus away from its traditional areas of strength in clinical negligence and personal injury (PI).

The firm took in fee income of £15m for 2012-13, up from £13.2m last year, after seeing growth of 120% in family law and 57% in private client work over the year, while its clinical injury and PI practice also experienced a successful year.

Over the last two years, the firm has now added £4m in fee income, representing an increase of 34%, while the proportion of total turnover provided by its clinical injury and PI practice has shrunk to half, due to growth in other areas.

The firm also stated it had experienced a surge in website instructions on both the business and private client side of 97% and an increase of 148% in fees generated from those cases.

JMW senior partner Joy Kingsley (pictured) said: "The results are even better than expected and reflect the hard work put in by the whole team. We have a very strong clinical negligence and PI practice and the plan has been to grow the other areas of our business. Last year we took a sizeable family team from Pannone and grew substantially our private client team, while also making a number of additions on the commercial side.

"Clinical negligence and PI now make up approximately half of our revenues, which gives our business a better balance. The firm is in a good position moving forward and we have no major concerns for the year ahead. Morale here is high and we are regularly fielding approaches from good people looking to join us."

JMW's results follow end-of-year announcements from Mishcon de Reya and Weightmans, which posted revenue increases of 14% and 6.4% respectively.
