Shearman & Sterling's London office has offered 11 jobs to 13 trainees qualifying at the US firm this September.

Although the number of acceptances has not yet been confirmed, the 85% offer rate is broadly in line with 2012, when the firm offered seven of its eight-strong intake (87.5%) a role at the firm.

In September 2011 the firm offered 11 of its 12 qualifiers (91.5%) a role at the firm.

The US firm is set to see a further thirteen new trainees join this September.

London managing partner Nick Buckworth said: "As a firm, we're proud to invest in a comprehensive training scheme. Having young lawyers develop their careers with us is a great way to cement collaboration and a consistency of approach firmwide.

"This in turn means our lawyers work closely together irrespective of where they're based or their specific practice area, to deliver the high quality international service our clients expect."

Earlier this year research by Legal Week found this year's spring average trainee rate across the bulk of UK firms has dropped by almost 10% on last spring's qualifying intake.

At the top 20 UK firms with a spring intake, an average of 76.5% of newly qualified lawyers were kept on this year, 9% down on the equivalent intake last year and 3% lower than last autumn's qualifying round.
