Taylor Wessing is set to lay off 26 London secretaries in a review of its London secretarial support team.

The cuts, first reported by RollOnFriday, will come in the firm's City base, where it has 96 secretaries.

The firm has not yet entered a formal consultation, but expects the process to last at least 30 days.

UK managing partner Tim Eyles said in a statement: "The realisation of our strategy is dependent on us ensuring that all areas of our business are structured with a view to providing the best and most efficient service possible to our clients. The redesign of our secretarial support is driven by that focus."

The news comes after the firm recently announced a 7% increase in global revenues for the 2012-13 financial year, with its UK arm reporting a 4% rise. UK turnover rose by just under 4% to £104.5m, up from £101m, while global turnover, including its German arm, grew from £212m to £228m.

A host of other law firms have announced redundancy consultations and job cuts in recent months.

Earlier this month it emerged that Maclay Murray & Spens has placed 30 legal and support roles at risk across the UK, while last month DWF placed around 80 roles at risk across the UK.

Other firms to have recently made cuts include Berwin Leighton Paisner, which last month announced a redundancy programme that has put 100 UK lawyer and secretarial jobs at risk, while Slaughter and May last November concluded a redundancy consultation which saw 44 secretarial staff leave the firm.
