Mishcon de Reya has won the Kingdom of the Netherlands as a new client after taking a role to advise on its move to a new embassy building on London's Southbank.

The Netherlands has acquired a 50,000 sq ft site at Ballymore's Embassy Gardens development in Nine Elms and will move from its current location at Hyde Park Gate in 2017.

Real estate partner Simon Hart is leading the Mishcons team alongside head of construction Simon Hunter,   associate Nick Harris and planning consultant Wesley Fongenie.

Wragge & Co is advising the developer, Ballymore, fielding a team led by real estate partner Peter Thorne.

Hart said: "This is a new client for us and we expect to work with them throughout the process until it is completed in 2017. The Government's pledge of £1bn towards the cost of the Northern Line is likely to encourage an increasing number of businesses into the area."

The new Dutch Embassy will sit next to the new US Embassy, which is under construction and also due for completion in 2017.

The new development, Nine Elms, will also provide up to 2,000 new homes, the potential for more than 500,000 sq ft of office workspace, new leisure facilities, a hotel and 130,000 sq ft of retail, bar and restaurant space. The scheme also includes an extension to the Northern Line to boost the area's accessibility.
