Jones Day grows Hong Kong team with hire of Orrick finance partner
Jones Day has grown its Hong Kong office with the appointment of banking and finance partner Michelle Taylor from US rival Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe. Taylor, who was previously the Asia managing partner for Orrick in Hong Kong before IP partner Xiang Wang took over the role in April, joins Jones Day with one associate, and boosts the total number of partners at the firm's Hong Kong office to 18.

Jones Day has grown its Hong Kong office with the appointment of banking and finance partner Michelle Taylor from US rival Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
Taylor, who was previously the Asia managing partner for Orrick in Hong Kong before IP partner Xiang Wang took over the role in April, joins Jones Day with one associate, and boosts the total number of partners at the firm's Hong Kong office to 18.
With almost 20 years of experience in structured finance, real estate finance, debt capital markets, general banking and securitisation work, Taylor has worked on some of the largest and most innovative securitizstions in China, Japan and Korea in recent years.
Before joining Orrick in 2006 she was a partner at Paul Hastings Hong Kong for three years, and prior to that she worked with Sidley Austin in the city. Taylor also did a stint with magic circle firm Clifford Chance in London before moving out to Hong Kong in 1998.
"Michelle is an outstanding finance lawyer and an excellent addition to the firm and our global banking and finance practice," said Robert Graves, co-chair of the firm's banking and finance group.
"Her track record and the breadth of experience bring tremendous value to our corporate and financial institution clients in the region."

Jones Day currently has seven offices in Asia-Pacific located in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong; Tokyo, Tapei, Singapore and Sydney.
The US firm, which was among the four outfits to be awarded a Qualifying Law Practice Licence (QFLP) in Singapore in February, has made a number of lateral partner hires in Asia in the last year.
In October the firm added former Allen & Overy M&A partner Chris Swift in Hong Kong, and in November it appointed Herbert Smith Freehills banking and finance partner Michelle Chen in Singapore.
Earlier in 2012 the Singapore branch also hired M&A partner Darren Murphy and disputes partner Matthew Skinner from Allens Arthur Robinson, as well as corporate partner Kevin Murphy and disputes partner Michael Pollen from K&L Gates.
The Hong Kong office also recruited a partner from K&L Gates, namely Maria Tan Pedersen, a banking and finance specialist.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments.
